Records of the Waterbury, Connecticut, firm of Hotchkiss & Merriman. Julius Hotchkiss and Charles Merriman's firm was incorporated in 1843. The records include articles of association, by laws, meeting minutes, and copies of annual certificates filed with the City of Waterbury. According to the articles, the company was established to manufacture and deal in Webbing, Common Webb, India Rubber, and other suspenders. Other products include cotton yarn, tapes, thread, and metallic suspender buckles. The company merged with Warren & Newton Manufacturing Company in 1857, creating the American Suspender Company.
